Re: #17 Will: To put something on the ballot requires a petition with the signatures of 5 percent or 20,000 registered voters to change the City Charter, or 10 percent of the registered voters for an ordinance, and the signatures must be gathered within a six-month period. As to the deadline to finalize the November ballot, for petitioners it's mid-June, according to Austinites for Georgraphic Representation, a group petitioning for the 10-1 plan for council elections.

You just described Capital Metro's mission. It is also Austin's mission too. With 1 bedrooms starting at over $800 they are wiping us out, like the Germans did in WWII to the Jews. The City of Austin wants to rid the people of color, disabled, and low income from the city. Maybe Mitt Romney needs to be our Mayor, like Leffingwell, he doesn't care about the poor. Now for the flouride gas! Oh, and that Urban rail project, they saw choo choos in WWII movies, and their light bulbs went off. Maybe need we need to petition for a recall, like Leander tried to with Cowman in 2003.

Time to call for the Abolishment of Austin Energy. This is why we need electric choice. Living in Houston, Texas has become cheaper as a result of electric deregulation. We need to be able to put that on the ballot. I wonder how many signatures does Austin need to do this, and the deadline before they have to finalize what goes on the ballot for November?

As usual a lot of great comments, And some touch on my situation. As many of y'all know I'm older, disabled vet with a rubber hose up my nose, on fixed income in Dove Springs. It's not to bad in the morning, with all windows open and fan's on. If there's a breeze then I can last well into the afternoon, if not, well I leave the windows up as long as I can, but eventually I start to struggle so I close them before it get's too bad on me and turn on the AC. Later on this summer it will happen earlier in the afternoon and as it get's more expensive I will push myself to endure longer and longer into the afternoon. One comment mentioned maybe there trying to get rid of the older, disabled, fixed income folks that aren't really much use any more. It's kinda frightening even for me, as I site here and cook, struggling to breath, wondering if I can go just a little longer to save a few more dollars, hoping I don't wait too long.

As bad as this is, at least Austinites can find out about this government waste because they own their own utility. God only knows what those executives at the Wall Street owned utilities in the deregulated parts of the state do with their revenues.
