The community needs to have skilled watchdog journalists on duty to sniff out corruption and uncover it in the public interest. That’s the mission of The Austin Bulldog. We are funded entirely by readers like you and foundations that choose to invest in high-quality journalism that serves the public interest. This allows us to provide the strongest possible independent reporting. But we need your help to sustain The Austin Bulldog's work. Your contributions, large or small, make all the difference.
Direct your contribution to a specific investigation The Austin Bulldog has investigative projects waiting to be funded. You can bring these investigations to life with your tax-deductible contribution.
Pick the investigation(s) you are interested in and contribute as much or as little as you like. We'll track the contributions online for each investigative project—to include each contributor's name and amount—so you will know exactly how much each investigation has collected. When an investigation is fully funded, the reporter will start working on it. The journalist assigned to do this investigation will provide periodic updates as the investigation continues, to be posted to this page.
The names of the contributors will be permanently recorded on the website and connected to the investigative projects their financial contributions made possible.
Should the investigation not receive full funding within the stated funding deadline (ack!), you will be given the opportunity to direct your contribution to another project.
This is your chance to make a real difference in investigative reporting in Austin.

Mortgage Relief
How are mortgage relief programs working in Austin? Not very well. Horror stories abound. By shedding light on the plight of homeowners and putting on a human face on these problems, this investigation will inform the appropriate authorities and help to hold them accountable for appropriate action to remedy the situation. Property Taxes Property taxes are, as one person said, "the taxes you pay to live in your home." Yes, that's the case, but everybody who owns real estate in Austin, be it a humble home or a soaring skyscraper, is required to pay property taxes annually. Property taxes pay for the services provided by the City of Austin and Travis County, for the education of our children in K-12 and junior college students, and public health care services. But does everyone pay their fair share? Funding deadline: 7/21/10 Fund this project Read more about this project ...............................................................................

Austin's Climate Protection Plan Then-Mayor Will Wynn announced the Austin Climate Protection Plan in a February 7, 2007, press conference. Just eight days later, the Austin City Council unanimously adopted a resolution to implement the plan. The opening sentence of the resolution states, "The Austin Climate Protection Plan will make Austin the leading city in the nation in the fight against global warming." That was three years ago. Is Austin the national leader the resolution promised?
